Albert Dressler Photo Copyist (1887-1960) California

Albert Dresler was born in San Francisco on September 29, 1887.
At various times he was a cartoonist, author, antique collector, historian, and reporter. While in San Francisco in 1900-03, Dressler studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute. By 1920 he was a cartoonist in Santa Barbara After 1922, he was a writer of historical books and a collector.
Dressler made copies of earley photos and put his name on them and offten added the arbitrary date of 1875 on them also.

He was financed in his collecting by wealthy patrons such as Frederick Clift "1899-1992" and W. Parker Lyon "1865-1949" and made many donations of materials to public institutions.
And by 1930 he had returned to San Francisco as a novelist and California historian.
He died in San Jose, Santa Clara Co., California on January 13, 1960.
