This photo of Santa Barbara Mission shows the Mission, the tenth of the California missions, founded by Father Fermin Lasuen on December 4, 1786.
Note Majordomo's quarters in foreground and also monastery wing roof was lacking it's tiles for the years 1856-1887. This is the fourth church at Santa Barbara completed in 1820 with only one tower. In 1831 a second tower was added in fell in 1832 and rebuilt in 1833. The mission was damaged by an earthquake on June 29, 1925.

Holdings: over 143 early photos of the Santa Barbara Mission, a group of Franciscan Friars on steps and an early interior both photos by Hayward & Muzzall and Don Diego Gutierez with his mules loaded with fire wood in front of the Santa Barbara Mission also by W. J. Rea, damage from the 1925 earthquake to the mission and photos of all the other 21. We have some original glass negatives by William Nutting Tuttle (1844-1895) of Santa Barbara. We also have a collection of Native Americans photos.
