Mission San Juan BautistaFounded on June 24, 1797 By Fr. Fermin Lasuen Fifteenth in the chain of the 21 alta California Missions. At the time San Juan Bautista was at the time in Monterey County it is now in San Benito County. This the second church and was completed in 1812 San Juan Bautista plaza was made a state park in 1935. In 1915 a big wind storm removed the top of the steeple, Photo Accession CV # 2011-055-0001 In 1929 the tower was remodeled in a more mission style. It was removed in 1949 In October of 1957 Alfred Hitchcock use the mission in some scenes in his film Vertigo with Kim Novak. |
